MCA Releases New Live Recording of Alan Jackson's 'Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)'

On the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 2001, the MCA pairs with country legend Alan Jackson to re-release a live recording of his patriotic ode to the American people, 'Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).'

The live version was recorded in June 2026 at Jackson's final concert in Nashville - an occurrence a 2001 Jackson couldn't have foreseen, as in Jackson's mind, the song would lose its relevance after a little while, being how specific it was to the event.

"I didn't think people would want to keep thinking about that," said Jackson.

In all the ways he had been right on the money with the song's writing and original release, that's one thing the 'Gone Country' crooner couldn't have been more wrong about. A quarter century later, both fans of Jackson and those affected by 09/11 still turn to the song in reverence and honor of that one historically tragic day.

Receiving acknowledgement he didn't expect, Jackson also performed the song in New York City on the six-month anniversary of 09/11, at the Pentagon on the one-year anniversary, and at the Kennedy Center for an official Washington, D.C. event attended by former president Barack Obama on the 10th anniversary.
