Morgan Wallen's ‘Last Night’ Becomes Longest-Running No. 1 Country Song in Billboard Hot 100 History

Morgan Wallen is continuing his unprecedented chart-topping run, as his 2023 track, ‘Last Night’, notched a record-breaking seventh week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

This makes Wallen's ‘Last Night’ the longest-running No. 1 country song in Billboard Hot 100 history. The previous record-holder was Kenny Rogers’ ‘Lady’, which enjoyed a six-week spell atop the chart in 1980. This week, ‘Last Night’ earned over 63 million radio airplay audience impressions, representing a 5% increase on the previous period.

The album that produced ‘Last Night’, One Thing At A Time, is holding its own atop the all-genre Billboard 200 for a staggering eleventh week, marking the longest run at No. 1 since the Titanic soundtrack topped the chart for sixteen weeks in 1998.

With One Thing At A Time not showing any signs of dipping in popularity, many expect it to break this Titanic record in the summer.

Remarkably - but perhaps unsurprisingly - it's not the first record to have been broken by ‘Last Night’. Earlier in the year, the infectious, beat-driven track became the first ever song to top the Billboard Hot 100 and Country Airplay charts simultaneously.

‘Last Night’ appeared on Morgan Wallen's sprawling, 36-song opus, One Thing At A Time, which dropped on March 3. It's also spawned hit singles such as ‘Thought You Should Know’ and ‘You Proof’, with the latter still holding the title as the longest-running Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 of all time - a record that ‘Last Night’ seems en route to breaking.

This week the CEO of Morgan Wallen's label, Big Loud, confirmed that his next single would be the joyfully retro-inspired ‘Everything I Love’, which revolves around a playful Allman Brothers Band sample.

While Wallen readies his next chart-topper, the Sneedville native looks on course to secure his first No. 1 on the US Pop Airplay chart, with ‘Last Night’ surging into the Top Ten this week.

Usually, a song's ascendency up the charts in country music depends heavily on the boost it receives from touring. It's therefore impressive that Morgan Wallen's latest chart success has been unhampered by the fact that he has been forced to suspend his 2023 One Night At A Time tour until June, after re-injuring his vocal chords.
