As one of the few entirely fan-voted awards shows, the People's Choice Country Awards returned to Nashville's historic Grand Ole Opry on September 26 to ring in its second annual ceremony. The show aired live across NBC and Peacock.
This time hosted by country icon Shania Twain, the People's Choice Country Awards expanded to an astonishing 18 categories, adding in trophies for Female Song, Male Song, Group / Duo Song, Cover Song, New Artist Song and Storyteller Song, in addition to its other exciting, left-field categories, such as Social Country Star, Crossover Song and others.
The bulk of this year's accolades went to acts like Morgan Wallen (People's Artist, Concert Tour, Social Country Star) and Luke Combs (Male Artist, Male Song, Album), as well as Lainey Wilson being named Female Artist of 2024.
Leading this year's nominees was none other than musical juggernaut Beyoncé, who nabbed an impressive 12 nominations for People's Artist, Female Artist, Song, Collaboration Song and more, yet came home with zero trophies at the end of the night. Following closely behind was country superstar Zach Bryan, who received 11 nods for categories including People's Artist, Male Artist, Crossover Song, Concert Tour, Album and several others. In a similar fashion, the Oklahoma native only nabbed the trophy for Collaboration Song of 2024 with Kacey Musgraves for their duet, 'I Remember Everything.'
Making an effort to include nominees that often go overlooked in the major country award shows, the People's Choice Country Awards also saw artists like Dasha crowned the Female Song of 2024 ('Austin (Boots Stop Workin)'), Shaboozey nabbing the New Artist of 2024, as well as New Artist Song of 2024 ('A Bar Song (Tipsy)'.
Throughout the evening, a slew of country-converts like mgk and Post Malone also racked up honors, including Cover Song of 2024 ('Sun to Me') and Crossover Song of 2024 ('Lonely Road' feat. Jelly Roll), which went to mgk, and Song of 2024 which was bestowed to Post Malone's 'I Had Some Help.'
Following last year's inaugural Country Icon award, which went to dearly beloved stalwart Toby Keith, female powerhouse Miranda Lambert received the honor at this year's ceremony. Similarly, this year's Country Champion honor was bestowed to worldwide phenomenon Kane Brown. Last year being given to country stalwart Wynonna Judd, the trophy serves to honor the passion for an artist's service and groundbreaking contributions to the country music industry and beyond.
Taking the stage throughout the ceremony were a who's who of country music, including thrilling performances from the likes of Brown, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, Lambert, Parker McCollum and The War And Treaty, among others.
The inaugural People's Choice Country Awards, hosted by Little Big Town, took place last September with the genre's brightest array of stars descending on the iconic venue to battle it out for a plethora of coveted accolades, including top winners like Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll.
