Back at C2C for the first time since 2016, Lauren Alaina delivered us an absolute belter of a set, showing the UK just what we’ve been missing all these years. Last time she was here, she played the Indigo stage; this time around she’s on the main stage, where she reflects, “I can’t believe I’m here!”
Lauren has an astounding stage presence and way of interacting with the audience, pointing, waving, and smiling at people all over the arena. A girl in a pink cowboy hat about midway in the stalls even gets a shoutout, proving this is a party for everyone.
Every four songs or so, Alaina interlaces one of her tracks with a classic cover, a smart (and successful!) move for drawing people in who might not be that familiar with her original songs. For instance, Alaina pulls Whitney Houston’s 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' into her own song 'Ladies in the 90s.'
Additionally, she sang three of her many great collaborations, 'One Beer' (HARDY, Devin Dawson), 'Getting Over Him' (Jon Pardi) and 'Thicc as Thieves' (Lainey Wilson), with the latter fittingly interpolated with Luke Bryan’s 2010s classic 'Country Girl (Shake It For Me)'.
A lot has changed for Lauren in the eight years she last performed at C2C, including that she recently got married. From the stage she shares how it’s her husband’s first time in London. “Can y’all make me look good for him?” She gets the whole crowd alight with phone flashlights and says to her husband who’s side of stage, “Look, your wife got them to do that!”
While London’s happy to make her look cool anytime, Lauren Alaina has no trouble doing that all on her own.
