We're in heat of Summer right now and we can't think of many things better than spending a gorgeous evening under a sunset in Wisconsin. If that also sounds like your bag, have we got the concert for you.
Hozier has been out on the road for most of the year so far, all in support of his most recent album, the March deluxe release of Unreal Unearth: Unheard. On Friday (August 16), the bus will bring him into Madison, WI, for a huge outdoor concert on Breese Stevens Field, home of the Forward Madison FC soccer team.
Excitingly, the opener for Hozier's Madison, WI tour-stop is Holler favourite Allison Russell, one of Hozier's perennial tour buddies, who is also touring in support of her latest album, 2023's The Returner.
Russell has only just re-joined the Unreal Unearth tour this August, with Hozier having been accompanied by Joy Oladokun for select dates in the last couple months.
Both have recently taken to the stage with Hozier for select duets during his set - Russell in particular has joined him for beautiful performances of 'Wildflower and Barley' and his powerful closing number, 'Work Song'. We'd put our money on the pair hopping on stage together once again during Hozier's Madison set.
Hozier's setlist has evolved and changed quite regularly through the months he's been out on the road. 'Eat Your Young' no longer seems to be the opener, replaced with the two-part narrative of 'De Selby', while 'Nobody's Soldier', a new song set to be released on his new EP this Friday (August 16), has suddenly appeared over the last couple weeks within his set.
What with this new EP, Unaired, releasing on the same day as the Madison show, we have a sneaky feeling that Hozier might give a live debut to either 'July', which he has teased previously, and the completely unheard 'That You Are', which is a duet with folk singer Bedouine.
Alongside the duets and new songs, you can be safe in the knowledge you'll be able to sing along to Hozier's most beloved songs. 'Too Sweet' has been receiving raucous singalongs throughout the tour, while 'Take Me To Church' remains the dark heart-stomping anthem of his setlist that it always has been.
Gates to the field open relatively early at 5:00pm. Hozier tends to take the stage at around 8:50pm and rallies through a full 22-song set.
A parking map for Breese Stevens field can be found here, with eight different parking lots available for the show. The venue recommends parking at The South Livinston Street Garage, two blocks from the Field, where 630 spaces are available.
There's a full list of Stadium Guidelines available for Breese Stevens field here, but one thing to note that's different from other events at the field is that, during concerts, blankets are not allowed into the stadium.
There are only face value exchange tickets available for the show, which can be purchased at Ticketmaster.
