Taken from Sophie Gault’s forthcoming album, Baltic Street Hotel, due out on Petaluma Records on April 12th, ‘Fixin Things’ is a stone baked slice of sloppy, sleazy country rock ‘n’ roll dripping in bluesy guitars licks, as the former singer with Sophie & The Broken Things looks for redemption and forgiveness with a roll of duct tape and some bailing wire.

“Been a hot mess, been a bad look / Been a worn out book that you’ve read before,” she sings, as she desperately tries to atone for her past mistakes. “Been an old dress, zipper got stuck / Worth about 5 bucks at the thrift store.”

Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer and singer-songwriter Ray Kennedy, known for his own country hits in the early ‘90s and his collaborative work with Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and Patty Griffin, Baltic Street Hotel is an exploration of Gault’s experience with bipolar disorder, which sees the Nashville singer, songwriter, and guitarist seeking a path to forgiveness in its many forms.

Often seen out on the road as a touring guitarist for Margo Cilker and Gabe Lee, the album features a duet with frequent collaborator Lee, and follows up Gault’s 2022 album Delusions Of Grandeur, released under the moniker Sophie & the Broken Things.

"My old band name was called Sophie & The Broken Things,” she explains about how ‘Fixin Things’ came about. “When I was at Ray Kennedy’s studio singing on a gang vocal for a Lucinda Williams song, he joked that I should write a song called “Fixin Things”. So, I went home and did a rough demo of this. It’s just a funny rambling perspective of someone who makes a mess of things habitually and wants to finally 'make it right.' It rocks - we did it all live with Josh Grange, Steve Mackey and Lynn Williams. This was the first take. Josh Grange’s guitar solo almost made me forget my words."

‘Fixin Things’ is premiering exclusively on Holler below.
