Ever since the pandemic forced country stars off the road and into the confines of their homes and hunting cabins, it's become much more common to see artists sharing covers of classic songs on their socials.

Although these videos have become regular features on any artist's socials feed, the prospect of taking on a song by the King of Country himself, George Strait, remains a formidable feat.

Nonetheless, with his haunting, distinctive vocals and the emotion he laces into every lyric, it's no surprise that Charles Wesley Godwin has delivered a faultless rendition of Strait's ‘Troubadour’.

‘Troubadour’ finds George Strait exploring the changing perspective that age brings, while defiantly underlining that he still feels as young as ever (“Well the truth about a mirror / Is that a damn old mirror / Don't really tell the whole truth”).

It originally featured on Strait's 2008 record of the same name, which went on to earn the Texas icon his first ever Grammy win for Best Country Album. Towards the end of last month, ‘Troubadour’ was certified three-times Platinum.

Charles Wesley Godwin continues to build an arresting repertoire of covers, with the recent Big Loud signee having recently released stellar renditions of Chris Knight's ‘The Jealous Kind’ and Zach Bryan's ‘Crooked Teeth’ as part of his 2023 Live from the Church EP.

As the West Virginia crooner hones his long-awaited follow-up album to 2021's acclaimed How the Mighty Fall, fans will be wondering whether a cover or two might make its way onto the tracklist.
