Wyatt Flores performed a cover of Tyler Childers’ ‘Charleston Girl’ during his show in Charleston, North Carolina at Music Farm on Tuesday evening (January 30).
The fan-favorite song, taken from Tyler Childers’ celebrated 2016 project, Live On Red Barn Radio I&II, was quickly recognized by the packed-out crowd, with attendees throughout the intimate venue singing along at the tops of their lungs.
While the much-loved track is about Charleston, West Virginia, Wyatt started the cover with the tongue-in-cheek quip, “We may be in the wrong state - but we’re still gonna sing it!”
“All I know is that when I am good and sober / I am leaving Oklahoma for a while”, Wyatt Flores crooned, winking to his hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma. This is just one way he adds flare to the song to make it his own. The additions of a mandolin, twinkling and dancing throughout the song, pairing beautifully with an electric guitar, adds a new dimension and helps to mould it to Wyatt’s sound.
Elsewhere in his set, Wyatt Flores performed his hugely popular new single, ‘Milwaukee’, which has already surpassed a million streams within the span of a week. The up-and-coming artist continues to build a quickly expanding fanbase, with all of the dates on his current 2024 Life Lessons tour having officially sold out.
Wyatt Flores has spent the last year creating a well-earned buzz around himself, and after this stellar Tyler Childers cover, we can’t wait to see what he does next.
