Over the past decade, few artists have showcased the genre-blending versatility that both Post Malone and MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) have exhibited. Post has flitted seamlessly between trap, indie-pop, country and rock, while MGK has also explored the murkier outer edges of the rap, punk, rock and country worlds.
What's more, Post and MGK have been good buddies for years now, with the duo regularly photographed at events and shows together. Most recently, the two trailblazing artists have linked up for a snap at the official Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party in LA.
As a result of their longstanding friendship and the malleability of their styles, fans have spent the past ten years clamouring for Post Malone and MGK to join forces in the studio.
Unfortunately, that duet has so far proven elusive. However, judging by a recent Instagram Stories post from MGK of the two, it looks like this collaboration might finally be happening.
Alongside a photo of him with Post Malone, seemingly taken during the Pre-Grammy bash, MGK has offered the teasing caption, “I think this the year we give the fans one”.
MGK is clearly aware of how vocal his listeners have been about their belief that a team-up with Post Malone would sound incredible - and we have to say we agree with them.
Given the fact that MGK has been venturing into the country music space over the past year, releasing a cover of Zach Bryan's ‘Sun to Me’ and ‘Lonely Road’ with Jelly Roll, we're hoping this MGK and Post Malone collaboration will be country-leaning.
Of course, given the eclectic palette of sonic textures and styles MGK and Post Malone can dip into, there's no telling what specific genre a joint track would fall into.
The most likely option, inevitably, is that it will eschew any kind of categorisation altogether. Either way, we're sure it will fit into the category of being awesome, and we're therefore hoping this duet comes to fruition sooner rather than later.
While he's at it, we're keeping our fingers crossed MGK has plans to at long last release his keenly awaited collaboration with Lana Del Rey, another artist venturing into Nashville.
The duet, believed to be titled ‘Bad For You’, has been knocking around fan-groups and unofficial YouTube pages for over seven years - so perhaps now that both MGK and Lana are exploring country music, it's time for that track to come to light.
