The inaugural line-up for Dead Ahead Festival 2024 has been confirmed, with Sturgill Simpson and Margo Price set to pay tribute to the Grateful Dead in Riviera Cancun, Mexico in January 2024.
The celebration will be part-festival, part-vacation in the mould of Luke Bryan's hugely popular Crash My Playa, with a number of previous Grateful Dead and Dead & Company band-members due to perform at the Moon Palace Resort on January 12-15.
Dead Ahead Festival 2024 will consist of a range of collaborations and covers, including performances from Grateful Dead band-mates, Bobby Weir and Mickey Hart, along with members of the spin-off group, Dead & Company, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge.
Also confirmed as part of the festival's first ever line-up is Don Was & Jay Lane, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Rick Mitarotonda, Orebolo, LP Giobbi, Sierra Hull, Brittney Spencer, Jaime Wyatt.
In addition, Oteil & Friends and Lettuce will be teaming up to deliver a celebration of The Jerry Garcia Band, which produced iconic 70s hits such as ‘Rubin and Cherise’ and ‘Gomorrah’.
Attendees will be excited to hear Sturgill Simpson taking the stage for a rare performance, with the Kentucky maverick having stayed relatively quiet on the musical front since the release of his widely acclaimed 2021 project, The Ballad of Dood & Juanita.
