Scotty McCreery has been invited by country legend, Garth Brooks, to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, with the ’Cab in a Solo’ hitmaker being surprised with the momentous news during his Opry Country Christmas performance.
The invitation to become a member of arguably the most prestigious and revered institution in country music is only extended to the most decorated and successful artists in the genre, and there's certainly no doubt Scotty McCreery is deserving of the honour.
With a slew of Platinum hits and No. 1 singles to his name, Scotty McCreery has been a prominent figure in the genre for a number of years now, with the ‘Five More Minutes’ crooner having gotten his start back in 2011 when he won American Idol.
In trademark Garth Brooks fashion, the country icon delivered the invitation to Scotty McCreery with a combination of charismatic ceremoniousness and hilarious levity, with Garth kicking things off by handing Scotty a large golden Christmas present.
Then, when Scotty McCreery began to unravel the extravagant red bow, Garth teased him by telling him not to open it until Christmas, before clarifying that the gift hadn't arrived yet.
At this point, Scotty clocked what was coming, with Garth sharing, “This is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry. We would love to invite you to be the newest member of the Opry”.
Scotty McCreery was visibly overcome with emotion, responding, “Holy cow. Yes, I would love to. I grew up listening to your records, Garth, and you’re a part of what made me want to do this for a living and I didn’t think that dream would become a reality, but it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight. God bless y’all”.
He went on to movingly underline, “When I got started doing this people asked, ‘What are your goals?’ and I’d say, ‘One day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry’”.
The Opry's Executive Producer, Dan Rogers, emphasised his excitement at welcoming Scotty McCreery to the family, “We’re thrilled to extend this much-anticipated invitation to our friend Scotty. Whether he’s on the Opry performing his hits, putting his spin on some old favourites during a performance on one of our Opry Country Classics shows, or offering a holiday set as he did tonight, Scotty consistently delivers and is always at home on the Opry stage. It’ll be exciting to hear the words ‘Scotty McCreery, you’re a member of the Grand Ole Opry!’ in the early days of 2024”.
