After Ferryn & Brinkley's impressive audition on The Voice, Riley Green drew a comparison that felt like the highest possible compliment for the country music sister-duo.
Ferryn & Brinkley, who covered The Everly Brothers’ ‘When Will I Be Loved’, received four chair-turns and chose Green's team, with the duo now having advanced to Cut Week.
As each coach made their pitch after the audition as to why they felt Ferryn & Brinkley should join them, Green chimed in with an eye-catching comparison. The Alabama native mused, “There's a girl that reminded me a lot of y'all. I took her on tour with me. Her name's Ella Langley”, before playfully quipping, “She's doing pretty well”.
This is, of course, a hilarious understatement, with Langley recently setting a new record for the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Choosin‘ Texas’. Langley has cemented herself as one of the breakout stars of 2026, with the ‘Be Her’ singer-songwriter widely tipped to win Best New Artist at the 2027 Grammys.
Green also revealed that Ferryn & Brinkley's audition transported him to his childhood, “So that was the first performance I've seen that took me back to where I grew up at. I was back in a little music hall in my great-grandparents’ house, listening to country music that my grandparents loved so much. I mean, obviously, because y'all are sisters, y'all’s voices go so well together. But it's got that old-school country music feel, which is such a great time to be that right now. So congrats to y'all for having that sound, because it's really making a comeback”.
Amusingly, he also remarked that, “I've had a little success with duets”, referencing his two collaborations with Langley, ‘you look like you love me’ and ‘Don't Mind If I Do’.
Although some fans online have tried to stir the pot by accusing Green of claiming he played a bigger part in Langley's success than he really did, we think they're just looking for a story where there isn't one. It's clear that Green was just joking when he said that Langley is “doing pretty well”, and he was simply giving Ferryn & Brinkley a compliment, rather than making some kind of gibe at Langley. The duo's traditional-leaning vocals do bring Langley to mind, with the ‘Butterfly Season’ crooner at the forefront of a retro resurgence in modern country music.
It's high praise from Green, and so far, it seems like his faith in Ferryn & Brinkley has been well-placed, with the duo continuing through to Cut Week on The Voice. The next episode of the hit series airs tonight (Monday, October 12th) at 8pm on NBC.
