Less than a week after his official foray into the genre, Post Malone has earned his first hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, with the New York native's HIXTAPE collaboration with the late Joe Diffie, ‘Pick-Up Man’, debuting at No. 54.
It marks the fifteenth Billboard radio survey Posty has charted on, with the ‘Chemical’ hitmaker having previously scored entries on the Billboard Pop Airplay, Rock & Alternative Airplay, Mainstream Rock Airplay, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay rankings and more.
‘Pick-Up Man‘ was released in tandem with ‘John Deere Green’, featuring Morgan Wallen, HARDY and Joe Diffie, with both tracks set to appear on the highly anticipated third instalment of HARDY's HIXTAPE series, which will arrive on March 29th 2024.
Posty, Morgan and HARDY delivered a blistering performance of ‘John Deere Green‘ and ‘Pick-Up Man’ during the 2023 CMA Awards earlier in November, with the star-studded collaborative set being heralded by many as one of the highlights of the ceremony.
‘John Deere Green’ was originally released by Joe Diffie in 1993, with ‘Pick-Up Man’ being made available the following year. The revamped HIXTAPE Vol. 3 versions include the ‘90s country icon's vocals, taken from his 2006 Greatest Hits re-recordings.
Joe Diffie died in 2020, with these two re-releases serving as HARDY's way of paying tribute to the hugely influential singer-songwriter. The Oklahoma crooner appeared on one of the stand-out tracks from HARDY's first HIXTAPE, ‘Redneck Tendencies’.
Joe Diffie's solo renditions of ‘Pick-Up Man’ and ‘John Deere Green‘ reached No. 1 and No. 5 respectively on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart shortly after they were released.
Post Malone will be looking to emulate the success of Joe Diffie's original and ‘pick-up’ his first ever No. 1 single in country music in the coming weeks. Hopefully, should he do so, it will help to convince Posty to release his long-awaited debut country album.
