Reclaiming History: Our Native Daughters, the documentary detailing the lives of Rhiannon Giddens and her bandmates as they hit the road for their 2019 tour, is set to premiere on TV.

The 47-minute film comes two years after the super-group quartet, made up of Giddens, Allison Russell, Amethyst Kiah and Leyla McCalla, released their debut album called ‘Songs of Our Native Daughters’.

It is set to premiere February 22nd at 9pm ET on the Smithsonian channel. The documentary incorporates exclusive interviews with the band and live performances.

Giddens formed Our Native Daughters back in 2018; originally she wanted their first album, which discusses the historical issues that have influenced the identity of black women, to come from historical words and observations about slavery.

However, when the group got together it became clear that they had their own original stories and observations to channel through song.

The four banjo-players continue to work on their own solo projects, with Giddens having arguably the most success with her grammy-nominated work.

However, the documentary takes a look behind the scenes of this ground breaking record, from four inspirational women working together as a collective.

You can watch Our Native Daughters on February 22nd 9pm ET on the Smithsonian Channel.
