One of the joys of going to shows in Nashville is that you never know who might pop up!
During the first of two sold-out nights at Music City's Bridgestone Arena on Friday night (May 24), folk sensation Noah Kahan thrilled fans with his ever-phenomenal set, full of biggest hits, dearly beloved fan-favorites from Stick Season Forever and an exciting unreleased song in 'The Great Divide.'
From the first notes of the raucous 'Dial Drunk,' through triumphant tracks like 'Forever,' 'Homesick,' 'All My Love' and the iconic 'Northern Attitude,' Kahan proved his star power with utter ease as he assumed his role as musical maestro of the evening, taking the packed out and utterly ravenous crowd through his more than 20-song setlist.
However, the Grammy-nominated superstar saved the best for last as he treated fans to a two-song encore, including his breakout hit, 'Stick Season,' decked out in the signature Nashville Predators jersey. It's the usual run of events at a Noah Kahan concert, but this time he offered up a special Nashville twist, surprising fans by bringing out country-rap maverick Jelly Roll.
"Ladies and gentleman, to the stage, one of my closest friends, Jelly Roll!" the hitmaker exclaimed to a roar of applause.
The pair have spent much of 2024 in similar circles, starting with their dual nominations for Best New Artist at this year's Grammy Awards.
During the build up to the ceremony, Jelly Roll famously crashed a Billboard interview with Kahan to underline his appreciation for the Vermont native's songwriting. The country trailblazer joked, “This is the bromance nobody knew was going to happen this week. We knew it though, we knew it, I had a feeling.” He went on to say, “I just love the authenticity of [Noah's] music. I love where he writes from. I love his dedication to the craft.”
This admiration was beyond evident on Friday night as the pair traded verses from Kahan's signature tune, the raspy edge of Jelly Roll's vocals adding a certain charm to the deeply celebrated anthem and serving as the perfect cherry on top to an already unforgettable night in Nashville.
"Nashville, Tennessee, y'all make some noise for one of the most prolific songwriters, one of the greatest fucking humans I've ever met," Jelly Roll screamed at the song's close as faux autumn foliage rained down on the crowd.
Marking only the third stop on the U.S. leg of his We'll All Be Here Forever Tour, Kahan will be on hand at Bridgestone Arena once again tomorrow night, making eager fans wonder if the second night will have a surprise in store as well.
Only time will tell what tricks Kahan has up his sleeve for Nashville night two, but until then, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a Jelly Roll collaboration on Kahan's forthcoming 2024 record.
