Niko Moon is shedding some light on how Morgan Wallen's fan-favourite song, ‘More Surprised Than Me’, came about, with Moon joking about how his co-writer - Ben Burgess - came up with the riff on a banjo...despite not being able to play the instrument.

In a new video, the ‘GOOD TIME’ singer-songwriter fondly recalls, “When me and Ben were writing ‘More Surprised Than Me’, he grabbed my banjo off of the wall - he doesn't know how to play banjo, so he just took one finger and was like...He was just kind of messing around like that, and we started writing the song to that”.

He goes on, “So I wrote that song with my buddy who doesn't know how to play a banjo...on a banjo! And it ended up turning into a Morgan Wallen song. You can't make it up”.

Although it was never released as a single, ‘More Surprised Than Me’ remains a beloved song among Wallen's die-hard fanbase, with the self-effacing track showcasing the ‘Last Night’ chart-toppers stellar vocals and ability to flit between personas.

It follows the enchanting story of an underdog who finds himself with a woman he feels is far beyond him. After playfully outlining that he can get away with seeming smarter than he really is and that he can convince pretty much anyone of the wildest tales, he stresses that the one thing nobody believes is that she is really his girlfriend.

He croons, “But nobody buys it when we walk in / They say there ain't no way that she's with him / In a world where nothing is what it seems / Ain't no one more surprised than me”.

Moon has established himself as one of modern country music's go-to songwriters, penning hits for Zac Brown Band such as ‘Homegrown’ and ‘Loving You Easy‘, as well as earworms like Dierks Bentley's ‘Gone’ and Rascal Flatts’ ‘Back To Life’.

Across his solo catalogue, meanwhile, the ‘RICH MAN’ crooner makes a point of releasing music that is permeated by an uplifting, optimistic message, epitomised by brilliant offerings like ‘THESE ARE THE DAYS’, ‘YOU, ME & A BEACH’ and ‘DRIFT AWAY’.

With Moon often performing ‘More Surprised Than Me’ as part of his live setlist, we're hoping we one day get to hear him perform this captivating gem alongside Wallen.

For the full lyrics to Morgan Wallen's ‘More Surprised Than Me’, see below:

“I bought a Harvard sweatshirt off the Goodwill rack
Makes some people wonder if I'm smart like that
And that guitar layin' on the chair is worn out like my boots
Makes it look like I can play it better than I do

-

But nobody buys it when we walk in
They say there ain't no way that she's with him
In a world where nothing is what it seems
Ain't no one more surprised than me

-

It's funny how some strangers like to size me up
This attitude it makes me street and this accent makes me dumb
I can tell 'em I've got pirate blood or ancient royalty
There's no end to the lies that I could get 'em to believe

-

But nobody buys it when we walk in
They say there ain't no way that she's with him
In a world where nothing is what it seems
Ain't no one more surprised than me

-

Must of done somethin' right, somethin' right
In another life

-

'Cause nobody buys it when we walk in
They say there ain't no way that she could be with him
In a world where nothing is what it seems
Ain't no one more surprised than me
Oh, ain't no one more surprised than me”
