It looks like Music City has patched things up with its resident country music superstar, Morgan Wallen.
Barely a week after Wallen received his sentence for his infamous chair-throwing incident, the Nashville Council has now approved his new sign for his This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen.
Initially, some were predicting that the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker could face up to six years in jail for throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church's Chief's Bar on Broadway. As a result, when it was announced his felony charges had been reduced to misdemeanours, and he'd face seven days in a DUI Center and two years of probation, it was viewed by many as the best outcome Wallen and his team could have hoped for.
Now, Morgan Wallen will be buoyed yet again by the news that the sign that was intended to be hung above his This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, which opened in June and is run by Wallen and the TC Restaurant Group, has been approved at long last.
In May, the Nashville Council voted 30-3 against the motion to have the sign installed, with a number of members providing vehement criticisms of Morgan Wallen's past behaviour.
Wallen then offered what fans suspected was a thinly veiled response, by sharing a photo of the packed-out Nissan Stadium he performed to earlier that year, seemingly hinting at the tourism and financial benefits the Sneedville chart-topper brings to the city.
The timing of the council's change-of-heart feels serendipitous, given it comes off the back of Wallen's sentencing. On Tuesday (December 17th), the Nashville Council voted 30-1 in favour of having the 20-foot sign put up on This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen. There were six abstentions, with the approval being given relatively quickly.
Morgan Wallen's This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen is located on 107 Fourth Avenue North, next to the Ryman Auditorium, and contains six stories, three stages and an open air-rooftop.
Although it's only been open for around six months, This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen has already become a leading destination in Nashville's artist-run bar scene, with a plethora of Wallen-themed easter eggs placed around the building, including a neon ‘Sand in My Boots’ sign, cocktails named after Morgan Wallen songs, photographs of Wallen on tour and a slew of other homages to the ‘865’ crooner.
At the moment, Morgan Wallen is in the middle of a temporary hiatus from performing, following the conclusion of his record-breaking One Night At A Time world tour in Charlotte, South Carolina in October. Wallen is believed to be working on his keenly anticipated new album, which is expected to be arriving at some point in 2025.
