Morgan Wallen has underlined how much he admires the way in which Kenny Chesney approaches his iconic live shows, with Wallen expressing how big a fan he is of Chesney.

Both Wallen and Chesney graduated from Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee, with Wallen having opened up previously about how Chesney was a major influence on him.

They've shared photos in the past from nights where they've watched the Tennessee Volunteers with other local legends, such as Kelsea Ballerini and Peyton Manning.

During an episode of Morgan Wallen Radio on SiriusXM, Wallen gushes about their similar origin stories, “Kenny Chesney, my fellow Gibbs High School alum, he's got so many good songs, and it's still kinda crazy to think that we walked some of those same high school halls that shaped us, and still ended up in Nashville - it's pretty cool”.

He goes on, “And I'm still a big fan of him and what he does, and the way that he treats his live show is second to none, and you know, me and my buddies back in the day, just singing ’I Go Back’, you know, at the bar or wherever. I cherish those memories”.

‘I Go Back’ remains in our daily rotation, with the galvanising, uptempo earworm capturing the blend of nostalgia and joie-de-vivre that Chesney is able to convey so powerfully.

These words from Wallen echo his previous sentiments, where he shared his pride at coming from the same place as the ‘Get Along’ hitmaker, “It's really cool to say that we're from the same place, and grew up doing a lot of the same things I'm sure”.

With Wallen currently working on his next chapter of music - which will seemingly pivot around his latest single, ’Been By Now’ - we're hoping that these two Tennessee trailblazers finally find time to hit the studio together sooner rather than later.

As Wallen crafts a new era, Chesney, meanwhile, is gearing up to drop his next studio album, Silver Sands Marina, on September 25th. The keenly awaited project will feature a trio of high-profile duets with Megan Moroney, Colbie Caillat and Lily Meola.

We're hoping that, in tandem with the new record, we'll get news of Chesney's 2027 tour plans. After two back-to-back years of residencies at Sphere Las Vegas, we're keeping our fingers crossed the Knoxville native intends to hit the road again on one of his signature stadium tours. As Wallen declares via Morgan Wallen Radio, few artists in country music possess the same level of dedication to putting on a fantastic live show as Chesney, which helps to explain why the ‘Summertime’ crooner is one of the few artists still able to sell out football stadiums. It's an approach Wallen has clearly brought to his own live shows, with his 2026 Still the Problem run lauded as one of the biggest and best tours of the year.
