Say what you want about Morgan Wallen, but the Sneedville native has always made a point of showing love to the peers that he admires and respects. In a new conversation on SiriusXM's Morgan Wallen Radio, Wallen underlines his appreciation for Luke Bryan.
Bryan took the ‘Whiskey Glasses’ hitmaker out on the road as part of his What Makes You Country Tour in 2018, when Wallen was still cutting his teeth and finding his way in Nashville.
Wallen reflects on his friendship with Bryan ever since that initial tour, with the ‘Thought You Should Know’ singer-songwriter praising Bryan as “one of the best people I've ever met”.
Wallen warmly muses, “I've had the pleasure of meeting [Bryan], actually just one of the best people I've ever met in general...Somebody who took me out on the road really before I even had a substantial hit...He showed a lot of belief and a lot of faith in me”. The country titan fondly adds that, as well as performing together a number of times, they get along off-stage, “I really enjoy hanging out with him”.
Wallen and Bryan have paid homage to one another throughout the years, with the latter toasting some of the ‘I Got Better’ crooner's earliest tracks in a recent interview, ‘“The second I heard [Chasin’ You], I knew something was up, I knew where he was coming from to write that”. He admitted, “If I'd have heard that song first listen, I would have [gone] right to the studio and recorded it - and just frigging loved it”. Bryan famously almost recorded Wallen's now-iconic hit, ’Sand in My Boots’.
In the same chat, Bryan went on, “When I heard ‘Up Down’, I was like, ‘Hey, get him out’...Just watching him go from having a couple singles to certainly where he's at now...”
We'd love to see these two country trailblazers linking up on a track in the near future, with Bryan's What Makes You Country Tour - in hindsight at least - feeling like a passing of the Bro-Country baton. Now, Wallen has evolved and shifted away from that sub-genre, but he still has a penchant for rowdy, party-ready anthems.
Wallen is currently in the middle of his blockbuster Still the Problem Tour, with the ‘Love Somebody’ chart-topper now able to do what Bryan did for him, in giving newer artists like Zach John King and Vincent Mason a platform in front of a huge audience.
