Midland have officially unveiled their keenly awaited fourth studio album, Barely Blue, which is set to arrive everywhere on September 20th, with the much-loved Texas trio also making a brand new song and video, ‘Lucky Sometimes’, available immediately.

The eight-song project will include the previously shared lead single, ‘Old Fashioned Feeling’, with Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson teaming up with renowned producer, Dave Cobb, for the first time to craft Barely Blue.

Speaking ahead of the announcement, Duddy explained, “We knew we wanted to go somewhere else. We are all big believers in a certain time and place, a sense of classic country that comes from roadhouses and bad coffee, miles and miles and miles on the road – and the idea that, even though we’re all happy, love and life falls apart, but that doesn’t mean you have to, too".

"When we were writing these songs, it was a trip into all the things in country music we love" Duddy continues, "You don’t hear much of this kind of unfiltered, hard stuff that comes with the great guitar sounds, the deep harmonies and shuffles you can tuck into. But that’s the essence of what Midland is – and Dave Cobb brought a new altitude to our sound”.

Mark Wystrach, Midland's lead singer, echoed his band-mate's warm sentiments about Dave, “Dave Cobb had been a producer we wanted to work with since we first heard Sturgill Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. Dave’s eclectic musical background and the way he approaches recording as an experience and not a task made him the perfect match for us. On Barely Blue, we feel like Dave helped us find the sound we’ve been searching for for a long time”.

Although much of Midland's beautifully rustic, steel-drenched catalogue draws inspiration from the moments when life knocks you down, their new single, ‘Lucky Sometimes’, flips the script, and offers a light-hearted, jubilant reflection on a hot streak when everything goes your way. The track is lit up by the trio's sumptuous harmonious, with Cobb bringing a new sense of sparseness to the arrangement, captured by the accompanying visuals, which were directed by Harper Smith and pivot around Mark, Jess and Cameron performing against a plain background.

‘Lucky Sometimes’ follows the release of the swaggering, sepia-tinged ‘Old Fashioned Feeling’ and the jaunty ‘Up in Texas’, and we're keeping our fingers tightly crossed the Midland boys treat us to another single or two ahead of Barely Blue's release this Fall.

Cameron Duddy concluded by reflecting on how far the band have come since that chance meeting in Wyoming in 2013, “Our sound and writing has always been evolving. We were three guys who met at a wedding, shot the shit about music and realized how much we had in common. We started singing together and were amazed at the sound of our combined voices. What started with ‘Drinkin’ Problem’ was the beginning of a journey that’s always been interesting; it’s twisted and turned, but honestly, Mark, Jess and I have loved everywhere it’s taken us”.

In tandem with the album unveiling, Midland have added a new slew of 2024 shows as part of The Get Lucky tour, with dates lined up across Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Washington and more. The forthcoming run of stops will feature support from Jackson Dean, Colby Acuff, Colin Stough, The Wilder Blue, Tanya Tucker and Elvie Shane. Tickets to Midland's 2024 The Get Lucky tour will go on-sale this Friday, June 28th.
