Get ready to raise your glass. Midland have served up another song fans can get buzzed on.
'Old Fashioned Feeling' arrived Wednesday (May 22). "It’s as smooth as the drink it’s named after, smoky as your favorite bar," the band first hinted of the track on social media. "It’s blue and comforting at the same time."
The weepy new track brims with the Texas-raised band's bewitching harmonies.
The band has explained further upon the song's release: “Sometimes it feels good to go for a swim in the blues, have a sip of that fiery nostalgia and live in the memory of something that was once so sweet that’s now turned bitter." They advice listeners to "lose yourself in this classic country cup of 80 proof soul with a back beat. It's the sound of every dingy neon hazed bar room where you go to hide in plain sight.”
'Old Fashioned Feeling' arrives alongside a dreamy music video flush with flappers, mimes and more, with the trio stepping away from the chaos to deliver a low-key performance.
‘Old Fashioned Feeling’ follows the arrival of ‘Up in Texas’ in December 2023, with both neo-traditional anthems expected to feature on Midland's forthcoming album.
The project, which has been helmed by Dave Cobb and is set to be eight tracks long, was previously touted by Mark Wystrach for an April or May release date, but given we're nearly at the end of May, it looks like the band's The Last Resort follow-up has been delayed. Nonetheless, with ‘Old Fashioned Feeling’ now dropping, it seems the rollout for Midland's next studio album is thankfully picking up pace.
