A sea of fans from all over the U.S. stood in the New York city streets rocking pink and camo, as they awaited Megan Moroney to make her debut live performance on the TODAY show. The country star, who has been paving the way for female vulnerability within her music, strutted center stage at Rockefeller center wearing a pink, western style and bedazzled one piece paired with white, knee-high red bottom boots.
As part of the TODAY show’s 2026 Citi Concert series, Moroney played a short, but snappy setlist of four hit songs, three from her stellar new Cloud 9 record, and one from her debut album Lucky.
The VMAs “Best Country” award winner opened with her playful “emo cowgirl” hit, ‘Medicine’, before going into her post-heartbreak self-love anthem ‘Beautiful things’. Fans also got the chance to sing along to her breakout hit ‘Tennessee Orange’, and close out by channeling the inner frustrations of a lover through ‘Traitor (Roles Reversed)’.
Moroney also reflected on the past couple of years of her career and what songs and steps have mapped the way for her during an interview with the TODAY show hosts, as well as describing the process for her debut song ‘Wonder’ and her biggest full-circle moments.
Furthermore, Moroney spoke on country legend Kenny Chesney’s mentorship throughout Chesney’s 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour, where she performed as an impressive opening act. She reflected on what she learned from Chesney as she embarked on her first real break-out year into the industry, exclaiming, “I watched him side stage every single night, and I was even paying attention to, okay, so when the lights go out, where is he looking, what is he doing? I was really nerdy about trying to figure out the art of commanding a stadium-sized crowd.”
This type of lead-by-example advice is certainly one that Moroney has seemed to take to heart, as she held fans captivated by her stage presence early-morning on the TODAY show.
