After weeks of speculation as to who Luke Combs would bring out at his London Night One show for his signature beer-shotgun moment, we finally have our answer: John Terry.

The ex Chelsea and England player was greeted by a somewhat mixed reaction from a packed-out Wembley Stadium, with a loud chorus of boos ringing out from what felt like the majority of the venue, while pockets of Chelsea fans cheered the cameo.

Terry has always been a controversial figure, with his numerous trophies being tainted by scandals such as his alleged affair with team-mate Wayne Bridge's wife. Terry was also highly visible at the World Cup, with England fans not best pleased with how pally the former player seemed with much-maligned FIFA boss Gianni Infantino.

Elsewhere during Combs’ set, he serenaded the audience with a captivating cover of ‘Dive’ by his buddy, Ed Sheeran. He also delivered stunning, pared-down renditions of gentle odes like ‘Better Together’, ‘Beautiful Together’ and ‘Going, Going, Gone’.

Through his various speeches, Combs came across as his usual affable self, proclaiming messages of love and expressing his gratitude and disbelief at getting to play Wembley.

It cemented his role as modern country music’s beloved everyman, a position that felt clearer than ever when he reflected on what he’d be doing if he wasn’t ‘Doin’ This’.

His revelation? That he’d still be ‘doin’ this’, only in some no-name local bar in his home state of North Carolina.

It was a stellar set from one of the genre’s dominant figures, and a show that was - as well as being packed with hits - permeated by an endearing sense of warmth and humility.
