Luke Combs has offered fans another sonic glimpse into his eagerly anticipated new album, Gettin’ Old, as he today released his latest single, ‘Love You Anyway’.
The endearing ballad is the follow-up to the new album's lead single, ‘Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old’, which Luke released on January 27.
The North Carolina megastar previously teased the track in early January, and even from that small snippet fans were already championing ‘Love You Anyway’ as a future hit.
As the track progresses, it initially appears to be about a heartbreak (“Even if I knew the day we met you'd be the reason this heart breaks / Oh, I'd love you anyway”).
However, in the second verse Luke builds ‘Love You Anyway’ into a slow-burning, heart-warming ode to the feeling of being in the throes of love. Throughout the song,
Luke uses vibrant imagery to highlight how his commitment to his wife will never fade, regardless of what the future holds (“If it took one look to turn my days to night / At least I'd have the stars that sparkle in your eyes”).
Luke keeps the production relatively stripped back compared to his other ballads, which often introduce a swelling, energising cacophony of instrumentation for the hook.
This gives ‘Love You Anyway’ a comparatively peaceful and tender tone.
Now that ‘Love You Anyway’ and ‘Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old’ have been released, Luke Combs’ followers are hoping that another unreleased song, ‘Five Leaf Clover’, will be made available soon.
When he revealed the full Gettin’ Old tracklist earlier in the week, fans were excited to see that ‘Five Leaf Clover’ would at long last be getting an official release.
Due to the song-title's loose link to shamrocks, some suspect he'll drop the track on St. Patrick's Day.
Gettin’ Old is being readied for March 24, and forms the sequel to Luke's celebrated 2022 album, Growin’ Up.
