Luke Combs has dropped a new live version of his hit Tracy Chapman cover, ‘Fast Car’, as the North Carolina native does everything he can to secure his first ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1.
‘Fast Car’ is currently battling it out with Morgan Wallen's ‘Last Night’ and Taylor Swift's ‘Cruel Summer’ for the top spot on the prestigious all-genre chart, with many predicting a photo finish.
At the moment, Combs is on-track to usurp ‘Last Night’, but it remains to be seen whether he can triumph over Taylor Swift's viral single, ‘Cruel Summer’, which has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent months, in part due to its appearance in Prime Video's much-loved series, The Summer I Turned Pretty.
If Luke Combs is successful in his No. 1 challenge this week, ‘Fast Car’ will become the country megastar's first ever chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100. His highest position so far is No. 2, which he's achieved with both ‘Fast Car’ and ’Forever After All’.
Luke Combs will be hoping release of a special live version of ‘Fast Car’ will help to give the track an additional streaming boost. The new rendition captures the charisma that the 2022 CMA Entertainer of the Year always brings to his performances, as well as showcasing the electrifying live vocals Combs has become known for.
‘Fast Car’ has already hit the pinnacle of the Billboard Country Airplay chart, becoming Luke Combs’ 16th No. 1 single, with the Tracy Chapman cover having also been certified Platinum a matter of months after its release as part of Combs’ 2023 album, Gettin’ Old.
