Sports personality Pat McAfee just announced his first ever country album, The Diary of a Polarizing Figure, and his buddy Luke Combs might have dropped our favourite response.

McAfee, who hosts the popular Pat McAfee Show, has been teasing a foray into the country music scene for a while, with the former Indianapolis Colts punter teaming up with ERNEST to work on the new project. Now, it's official - McAfee is releasing his first ever full-length studio album, The Diary Of A Polarizing Figure, on August 14th.

While many fans and followers immediately took to the comments to share their immense excitement, Combs, on the other hand, had some light-hearted criticism for his pal.

The ‘Beautiful Crazy’ hitmaker has expressed mock indignation at not being asked to lend his vocals to the new project, “Not calling me on this? Unforgivable”. McAfee has replied with three laughing-crying emojis, before clarifying that there are “NO FEATURES” on the record. This implies ERNEST is only involved as a songwriter.

In the heartfelt caption, McAfee reflects on how this new album will showcase a more vulnerable side that will cut through the various headlines and narratives out there about him.

McAfee explains that he has, in a sense, been working on this album for two decades, “For as long as I can remember my mere existence has made people hate my guts.. literally since elementary school. Teachers, administrators, other parents, you name it.. I didn’t understand it as a child but throughout my life I’ve come to realize that this is just how it’s gonna be. I’ve been writing songs about it all for 20yrs. It’s time to let them aht.. There’s A LOT of headlines & narratives about me.. if I was to die, I’d like my kids to know exactly who and what their dad is”.

McAfee concludes with a tribute to ERNEST, “The Diary Of A Polarizing Figure. With incredible assistance from @ernest and many other INSANELY talented musicians in Nashville, my words have come to life. I’m very proud of what we’ve put together”.

There's no tracklist for The Diary Of A Polarizing Figure just yet, but given McAfee's comment about there being no featured artists, we suspect that he's been drawing on Nashville's unrivalled pool of songwriters, rather than artists, with ERNEST at the helm.
