Levi Foster has returned with another stellar new single, with the fast-emerging Virginia native treating his loyal fanbase to the rose-tinted, swaggering ‘She's in Richmond’.
Pivoting around a witty play on words that calls to mind Oliver Anthony's ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’, ‘She's in Richmond’ finds Levi Foster weaving an endearing tale about a travelling musician attempting to save up for a ring for the love of his life.
Speaking ahead of the track's arrival, Foster explains, “I was living in my van soon after moving to Nashville when I came up with the hook, ‘I’m in love and she’s in Richmond’”.
The ‘Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again)’ crooner went on, “Being a Virginia native, I was missing home at the time, so I wanted to write a song about a guy on the road rushing to get back home. The song is straight down the middle, with some ‘90s rock influence along with the vibe of some ‘70s groove bands”.
Across the infectious new release, Levi Foster showcases his distinctive, charismatic vocals as he longs to be reunited with his lover, “Oh, I'll tell you what, man / When I'm holding her hand / It's better than being a rich man / But she's in Richmond / Living her life / She's gonna make a good wife / To this lucky man someday”.
What really lights this track up is the striking juxtaposition between the harsh reality of the couple's financial situation, and the sweet, charming innocence of their unconditional love.
It follows the arrival of ‘Walter’, which has drawn widespread plaudits, and explores the heartbreaking tale of a man contending with Alzheimer's as his daughter cares for him. It's another example of Levi Foster's visceral storytelling prowess, and once again highlights the ‘12 Saturdays’ singer-songwriter's ability to construct powerful vignettes revolving around an eclectic mix of characters.
Both ‘Walter’ and ‘She's in Richmond’ ensure the sense of anticipation remains sky-high ahead of Levi Foster's forthcoming album, We Made Fire, which is set for a Fall release.
