Tennessee's country prodigy, Lauren Watkins, has become Big Loud Records’ / Songs & Daughters’ latest signing.
The fast-emerging artist will release her debut EP, Introducing Lauren Watkins, on April 21, but we thankfully won't have to wait that long until we get to hear the first taste of new music from Watkins.
The singer-songwriter is releasing two singles from the new project, ‘Shirley Temple’ and ‘Camel Blues’, on April 14.
They'll be lapped up by fans of Watkins’ impressive array of covers and unreleased song snippets, which showcased her honeyed vocals and her ear for a killer melody.
Speaking ahead of the unveiling, Watkins underlined her excitement at the signing, “Country music has been one of the biggest parts of my life for as long as I can remember.
And all this time I've had this vision and dream in my head of what it would look and sound like when I finally got to make music of my own. Songs & Daughters and Big Loud have given me the space and the time to actually do it”.
She went on to express her pride at the body of work she's currently preparing to release on April 21, “These songs were always gonna exist because they're just my life in melodies.
Having a label that believes in them and believes in how these songs can reach people is the biggest dream come true. I'm grateful they're giving us – me and my songs – a chance”.
Big Loud Records’ CEO and Partner, Seth England, emphasised his excitement at Watkins’ signing, “We've been quietly working on what we believe will be one of the most exciting new artists in our format for about a year, listening to the music she's turned in and pinching ourselves at the incredible poetry and musicality. It's a privilege to be part of her team of champions and advocates”.
The head of Songs & Daughters, Nicolle Galyon, highlighted what makes Lauren Watkins’ sound unique, “Everything about Lauren's writing and voice is a perfect representation of who she is as a person – effortless and unique.
There really is no limit to where her songs will take her and I'm so excited for the world to get to hear what we hear”.
As well as building her rapidly expanding fanbase via her much-loved covers, which included a stellar rendition of Ernest's ‘Miss That Girl’ last year, Lauren Watkins has also been honing her craft as a songwriter for Big Loud and Songs & Daughter's publishing division.
Now, she's gearing up to step deservedly into the spotlight, with many looking keenly ahead to the chance to hear two songs from Introducing Lauren Watkins on Friday.
