During their show on Thursday night (April 10) at Township Auditorium in Columbia, South Carolina, Lauren Watkins joined Zach Top on stage to sing Barbara Mandrell and George Jones duet, ’ ‘I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool’.
The pair effortlessly styled out the iconic track – Watkins in her red boots and Top with his signature cowboy hat – smiling with each other as they crooned over the '80s country classic.
Singing along to Top’s lines, Watkins’ joy for the performance was undeniable whilst Top laced the track with his indistinguishable vocals.
“Since everybody’s gone country these days…me & [Zach Top] had to tell em,” wrote Watkins as she shared the clip to her Instagram story.
Sharing stages with some of country music’s modern hitmakers, Watkins has been touring with the likes of Morgan Wallen, Riley Green and Lainey Wilson later this year, the ‘Stuck In My Ways’ singer is certainly learning from the best.
Watkins recently released ‘Lose My Cool,’ which marks her first single since The Heartbroken Record last summer.
The pair of next generation country stars will continue to play shows together throughout May before Top heads out on tour with Dierks Bentley later this year.
