Lainey Wilson has revealed she will make her follow-up project to 2022's Bell Bottom Country a “step up”, as well as sharing her intentions to ensure it's significantly different from last year's opus.

The ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ hitmaker opened up about her mindset as she continues to work on the upcoming album in a new interview with American Songwriter. Lainey explained, “During this really busy season of life that I’m in, I want to write about things that make me feel grounded or make me feel like I’m at home because I’m never at home”.

She went on to highlight how, despite the immense success of her previous album, she's still aiming to offer listeners something different with her new project, “This next record, it needs to be different. Let’s not try to fix what’s not broke at this point, but it needs to be a step up. It needs to show a different side of me”.

Lainey once again referenced the growing collection of love songs she's been amassing, which have been inspired by her relationship with Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges, “It’s going to be really easy to show that different side of me because I am in a very healthy relationship, and you’re gonna be hearing things out of me that I didn’t even know I was capable of”.

The Louisiana native emphasised, “It’s really cool when you can completely let those walls down. I’m learning things about myself right now that I didn’t even know was possible. I’m able to share more of my life. Being able to say, ‘Hey, I’m happy and healthy and in love,’ it’s something I didn’t know I was gonna get a chance to say”.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Lainey Wilson confirmed she'd started work on the new album before she'd even released Bell Bottom Country. We're yet to receive any teasers or snippets from the project, but fans are hoping they'll be able to hear the lead single before 2023 is out.

Improving on Bell Bottom Country - which was included by many outlets, including Holler, as one of the albums of the year - will be no mean feat. However, given Lainey's stellar lyricism and her ear for a killer hook, we're sure she'll deliver another top-tier project.
