Jelly Roll has debuted an unreleased song, ‘I Am Not OK’, during The Voice USA's Season 25 grand finale, with fans hoping the powerful new track will feature on his forthcoming Whitsitt Chapel follow-up, which is expected to drop later this year.
‘I Am Not OK’ follows in the evocative, quietly hopeful vein of Jelly Roll hits such as ‘Need A Favor’, ‘Church’ and ‘Save Me’, with the Tennessee crooner laying out his anxieties and struggles, before assuring listeners things will work out in the end.
Rather than delivering a hollow mantra or superficial motivational witticism, Jelly Roll took The Voice viewers on a journey through his darkest emotions, peeling back the curtain on the mental challenges he still faces on a daily basis, before offering the emphatic, rousing conclusion, “I'm not OK, but it's all gonna be alright”.
The live debut of ‘I Am Not OK’ comes less than a week after Jelly Roll performed another unreleased track, ‘Liar’, at the 2024 ACM Awards with both tracks leaning into the anthemic, gospel-tinged ambience that pervaded Whitsitt Chapel.
Excitingly, it therefore seems the rollout for his new album is picking up pace, and we're keeping our fingers crossed the ‘Son of a Sinner’ singer-songwriter releases ‘Liar’ and ’I Am Not OK’ before he kicks off his Beautifully Broken tour in August.
Elsewhere during The Voice finale, Jelly Roll's good friend, collaborator and BBR label-mate, Lainey Wilson, took the stage to perform her new single, ‘Hang Tight Honey’, before receiving a coveted invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry by Reba McEntire.
