Red. Green. Blue. Pink… Gold? Is Megan Moroney Already Hinting at Her Next Album Era?

At this point, Megan Moroney fans know one thing: you do not ignore an outfit colour.

Red belonged to Pistol Made of Roses, green to Lucky, blue became synonymous with Am I Okay? and 2026 has been painted pink for Cloud 9. Moroney has made colour such an important part of each project that fans have basically been trained to look for clues everywhere.

And these aren't just colours that happened to appear on an album cover.

Each one has become part of an entire Megan Moroney era. The clothes change, the artwork changes, the stage changes, the merch changes and, eventually, arenas full of fans start turning up dressed in that colour too.

Which is why one particular outfit has caught our attention.

Back on August 7, during Moroney's Cloud 9 Tour stop in Los Angeles, she appeared on stage in a sparkling gold number. At the time, there wasn't necessarily any reason to read much into it. This is, after all, a tour whose wardrobe lives by the mantra “more is more”.

A couple of weeks later, though, Moroney posted a “CLOUD 9 TOUR WARDROBE APPRECIATION POST”, giving fans a proper look at the clothes rail that's been travelling around the world with her.

Look at that rail as a whole and there's something of a visual history of Megan Moroney's career sitting there.

There's red.

There's green.

There's blue.

There's plenty of Cloud 9 pink.

And then there's gold.

Now, before anybody starts preparing the gold cowboy boots for MM4, there are several enormous caveats here. Moroney has shared other shimmering looks, including silver, and there has been absolutely nothing from her to suggest that every colour hanging on that rail carries some hidden meaning.

But the gold has now appeared again.

On September 28, almost two months after that Los Angeles appearance, Moroney brought the gold back out during the second of her two shows in Glasgow, wearing it while performing ‘Stupid’.

And that's where the timing starts to make this a little more interesting.

Back in July, Moroney revealed that she had imposed something of a songwriting ban on herself. Despite having around 60 ideas “marinating” in her phone, she was deliberately refusing to start writing the album after Cloud 9 until the tour finished in October.

There was a reason for that.

During the Am I Okay? era, Moroney was already writing Cloud 9 and knew what was coming next. Looking back, she felt she'd perhaps spent too much time thinking ahead rather than completely enjoying the moment she was living through.

This time, she wanted to stay in the pink.

“I don't wanna move onto the next color,” Moroney explained. “I just wanna be in the pink.”

Which makes gold appearing again now rather well timed.

Moroney has since reiterated that she intends to start writing again after the UK leg of The Cloud 9 Tour. Following Glasgow on September 28, there is now only Belfast on October 1 before that UK run is finished.

In other words, the self-imposed period in which Megan Moroney wasn't allowing herself to think too seriously about the album after Cloud 9 is almost over.

And just as she's preparing to move beyond the pink, gold has appeared again.

Does that mean MM4 is gold?

Absolutely not.

There has been no announcement, no deliberate tease from Moroney connecting gold to her fourth album and no reason to believe she's even decided what the next record looks or sounds like yet. Sometimes a gold sequinned outfit really is just a gold sequinned outfit.

But Megan Moroney has also spent three album eras teaching fans that colour matters.

Red. Green. Blue. Pink.

And now, on a clothes rail containing all four, there's gold.

A gold outfit she wore in Los Angeles in August, and has now brought back out as the Cloud 9 Tour reaches the end of its UK run and the songwriting ban she imposed on herself is about to be lifted.

Maybe it's nothing.

But if Megan Moroney suddenly starts wearing a lot more gold over the next few months, don't say we didn't warn you.

And, actually, this isn't the first time we've been here.

Back at the 60th ACM Awards in May 2025, Moroney caused something of a colour-theory meltdown when she temporarily ditched the Am I Okay? blue and arrived in a striking yellow Cult Gaia gown inspired by Kate Hudson's famous look in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

At the time, fans immediately wondered whether yellow might be the colour of MM3. One particularly interesting comment in hindsight declared: “GOLD IS THE NEW BLUE.”

We even had yellow down as one of the frontrunners ourselves.

Of course, we were wrong. Cloud 9 eventually arrived dressed head-to-toe in pink, and Moroney herself had a perfectly innocent explanation for the ACM look: she'd recently watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, become obsessed with it and “just wanted to wear yellow”.

So perhaps history is simply repeating itself and we're about to spend the next few months obsessing over another Megan Moroney outfit that means absolutely nothing.

But looking back at that dress now, there's something interesting about just how close to gold that supposed MM3 red herring actually was.

Yellow-gold has been floating around Moroney's wardrobe since before Cloud 9 was even announced. Now we're seeing a much more unmistakable gold appearing repeatedly on The Cloud 9 Tour, just as Moroney approaches the point at which she's said she'll finally allow herself to start writing the next record.

Maybe we weren't entirely looking in the wrong direction after all.

Maybe we were just an album too early.
