There is no doubt Hank Williams Jr. is an icon. When he stepped onto the main stage at Two Step Inn, crowned in a trucker hat that read ‘ICON’, there were still no doubts.
However, that hat should have instead read ‘Tough Act to Follow’ because that's exactly what he was on Sunday night (April 21) at the Georgetown, Texas festival.
The son of the late great Hank Williams and a legendary country bluesman in his own right, the artist gave an explosive performance, showing off his decades-long catalogue and tipping his hat to the broader country music dynasty.
The moment he opened with an energetic rendition of Neil Young's 'Are You Ready for the Country?,' the late afternoon set turned into one big party, fans both new and seasoned getting wrapped up in every song. He rattled through classics like 'O.D.'d in Denver', 'Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound' and 'All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight'; as well as touchingly paying homage to his father with Hank Williams classics such as 'Move It On Over' and 'Kaw-Liga.'
It was expansive set, full of unparalleled skill and unmatchable energy, one that would ultimately be difficult to beat.
