Gavin Adcock has taken to social media to announce the release of his third studio album, The Day I Hang it Up. The album is to be released this Fall on October 2nd, and features the first three songs available now, ‘Wannabe’, ‘Cheap Thrills’, and the title track, ‘The Day I Hang it Up”, which Adcock released today (Friday, July 17th) for expectant fans.
As part of the unveiling, Adcock reflected on the challenging period from which this eagerly anticipated album was born, “This last 5 years have been the wildest time of my life. I’ve been through nearly everything a person could imagine writing songs and living on a damn tour bus. Through all of that I’ve stood up to my darkest demons, laughed in the face of adversity, and kept the pedal down letting out music for my fans. Some artists come in, make a couple of records and disappear for the rest of their life. For me? Imma be doing this s*** till the day I die”
Adcock's heartfelt caption carried the essence of the record’s title-track, as he expressed his dedication to the genre as well as his appreciation for the wild ride the ‘Last One to Know’ singer has had thus far in his career.
‘The Day I Hang It Up’ is an anthem for confidence in his own path, for better or for worse. As the chorus belts, “The day I hang it up, is the day I’m ridin’ out / Flyin’ high above, will put me in the ground / I got it in my blood, too late to change it now / The day I hang it up, is the day they lay me down,” The single features a similar melody to single ‘Never Call Again’, off his 2025 album Last One to Know, but the theme of the song is one that the regular country good ol’ boy has yet to express in his discography, until now.
After a somewhat rocky year for Adcock, facing as he said some ‘adversity’ - some the inevitable consequence of spotlight in the industry and some of it from butting heads with country’s biggest stars - it is refreshing to see the ‘Run Your Mouth’ crooner taking pride in his journey, with a bold title-track that says, ‘Love or hate me, this is who I am and I’m here to stay’.
The second track on the record, ‘Wannabe’, is similar in nature as far as Adcock’s delight in his country nature. The first verse proclaims love for country living, where the singer describes the externals of the lifestyle which leads to the end of a chorus that caps this description off with Adcock’s feelings of there truly being no better way to live, singing, “It’s the way I am and the way I’m gonna be, and if I wasn’t then I wanna be.”
The third song, ‘Cheap Thrills’, is one for the dopamine highs of seeking momentary bliss through some of life’s most addictive pleasures. Adcock teams up with ‘5 to 9’ hitmaker Hudson Westbrook to deliver this one, making the song the second feature he has ever invited into his music, next to ‘Almost Gone’ with Vincent Mason.
Both still relatively up-and coming artists, the two get the chance to showcase their talents and why they deserve the recognition their music has been receiving through a fun, light-hearted tune.
As for other features on The Day I Hang It Up, Adcock seems to have more than a few up his sleeve. With more to come this Fall, fans are already keenly awaiting the release of this album. Though we’re not sure how the rest will sound, we do know that - like the man himself - the record is sure to be fun, wild, and a complete rock-out to hear live.
