Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, oh my! Brooks & Dunn's forthcoming collaborative album, Reboot II, is overflowing with today's hottest country acts reinterpreting some of the group's most classic works.
However, there was one star in particular that apparently stunned the legendary duo in the studio.
“Megan Moroney was the biggest surprise," Ronnie Dunn, one half of the partnership behind standards like 'Neon Moon', tells Holler.
Her version of their 2001 hit 'Ain't Nothing 'Bout You' is enchanting, a rendition that stays true to the song's earnest sentiment but is also reinforced by a bit of her own flair.
"She put a creative twist to it," Dunn recalls. The song is full of Moroney's signature vulnerability but is also bolstered by a distinct rasp and grit to her vocals that hasn't been heard from the star before.
"Kristian Bush from Sugarland produced the track," Dunn continues, adding jokingly, "I think he kept her up like maybe three or four nights smoking Camel cigarettes or something.”
While Moroney was a tour mate of the duo's during their 2023 Reboot Tour, what she brought to 'Ain't Nothing 'Bout You' was almost unfamiliar to their ears. As Dunn puts it: “I had not heard that voice before.”
The forthcoming Reboot II marks the sequel to the group's acclaimed 2019 effort, Reboot, another collaborative project that saw contributions from special guests like Kacey Musgraves, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, Cody Johnson and more.
Come this Friday (Nov. 15), fans will get to experience many of the same classics and more retooled by several other stars – this time, across genres.
