So many country songs are set at the end of a relationship - when everything's gone to shit and you're left to pick over the pieces of the mess you've both made between you - so, it makes a nice change to have a song about the starry-eyed, hope-filled beginning of one for once.
The new single from Kat Velasco is all about those giddy, butterflies-in-your-stomach first feelings you get when you're falling for someone new. When romance is still in the early flush of bloom and every interaction causes the endorphins in your brain to go berserk.
“It's all about that undeniable spark when someone new comes into your life," says Kat Velasco. "The thrill, the late-night texts, and the way they start taking up space in your world."
Written by Kylie Sackley, alongside Erin Kirby and Robyn Dellunto, and produced by Andy Sheridan, 'Name on My Phone' perfectly captures that magical, moony feeling of falling in love when you don't even know what to call it yet. With its '80s pop flourishes and wistful, daydreamy feel, 'Name on my Phone' is a peppy pop country anthem for hopeless romantics everywhere with a chorus that explodes out of the speakers like an excitable puppy jumping haphazardly around for joy.
“When it lights up, I won’t lie, if it ain’t you I get disappointed every time," she sings, as she cleverly and poetically externalises that wild rollercoaster of emotions you go through when you're tentatively falling in love.
"It’s upbeat, effortlessly cool, and made for summer drives with the volume all the way up," Kat Velasco says. "This song captures the excitement of something fresh and full of possibility. It’s the kind of track that feels like golden hour, warm breezes, and the start of something real."

She’s also opened for acts including BRELAND, Love and Theft, David Nail, and Tierra Kennedy.
