It's been nearly two decades since we've experienced a full-length collection of original work from legendary country duo Brooks & Dunn.
While their star-studded Reboot series, the second of which is scheduled to arrive on Friday (Nov. 15), has satiated us with re-recorded and reinterpreted favorites, we've been eager for something fresh from Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn.
As it turns out, the wait may soon be over.
During a conversation with Dunn about the forthcoming Reboot II project, one-half of the 'Neon Moon' pairing told Holler that an album is in the works.
"We've been working on it for quite a while now," he shared. "Just stacking songs up."
A collection of new material will mark the duo's first since the 2007 release of their celebrated Cowboy Town. Times have certainly changed since that album, and to Dunn, it's been for the better.
He explained, "Now, as opposed to back when we were on that perpetual corporate treadmill of having to put out a record a year and do all this, we're able to sit back and take our time."
This time around, they also don't have to rely on radio, the success of their music living and dying by airplay. "For the longest time, because of the one-horse radio thing, you were limited," he added. "When you were off the radio, you were forgotten. Now, you're not."
Social media and streaming have quickly shaped the music industry and it's a change Brooks & Dunn are taking in stride, excited about the doors these new platforms could open for their latest works.
"I don't want to go down just as a franchise act out there doing only the hits," he explained. "The creative process hasn't stopped just because there was an outlet out there that was pretty much dominated how you were exposed. Now, we have the internet."
It's an thrilling time for the duo to be ushering in this new era. "Having all these different outlets, it’s a blast," he shared, adding "It's brought new life to the industry."
Between writing and recording for the record, the star revealed they were about "three-quarters" into the new effort, adding "I'm excited about where we land."
