The first buds of Spring may only just be appearing, but it seems Ernest already has his mind set on the sweltering Summer months - and he's teasing some sonic heat to accompany them.

The Nashville native recently returned from a successful run of shows in Australia in support of Morgan Wallen, and is currently taking a breather ahead of the next series of dates in April.

Ernest has shared a brand new song that he's been working on during his time off, entitled ‘Summertime Flies’.

His classic laid-back vocals glide across an uptempo, R&B-infused beat, as Ernest croons wistfully about how the Summer always comes to a close too soon.

The instrumental brings to mind tracks such as Wallen's infectious ‘Neon Star (Country Boy Lullaby)’, which was co-written by Ernest.

‘Summertime Flies’ could signify a shift in direction for the ‘Flower Shops’ hitmaker, as he moves away from the neo-traditional country sound that underpinned Two Dozen Roses.

In the caption to the newly shared demo, Ernest pre-empted any comments from country purists complaining about his use of electronic drums, writing, “Relax - it'll be real drums”.

Although it's been under two months since Ernest released thirteen new songs as part of Two Dozen Roses, fans are already clamouring for more music from the chart-topping singer-songwriter.

It seems they might not have to wait too long, with Ernest hinting on Twitter that a new album is in the works, teasing “Next album Finna be different”.

When the new project does arrive, fans will certainly be hoping ‘Summertime Flies’ makes its way onto the tracklist.
