Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has taken to socials to offer a few heartwarming words for his good friend, Jelly Roll, after Jelly paid tribute to Dwayne's impact earlier in the week.
During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the ‘Need a Favor’ hitmaker endearingly revealed how Dwayne Johnson reached out to him at a crucial moment in his career, “He encouraged me at a time when I really wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing”.
In response to Kelly Clarkson showing him the clip a few weeks later, Dwayne Johnson explained, “I was going through a hard time, and I happened to [find] a playlist, I just hit shuffle and a song came on. The song really moved me. The song's called ‘Only’”. Jelly Roll released ‘Only’ back in 2017 as part of his rap-leaning Addiction Kills record.
DJ singled out the lyrics that touched him, “A line that really moved me: “What if the darkness inside of me has finally taken my soul? / What if the angels in heaven were sent to take me home? / Would they fight through the demons that I have in my life?”
Dwayne Johnson has followed up by doubling down on his homage to his pal, Jelly Roll, via Instagram, “Always believed in you brother ☝🏾 your music & friendship helped me thru a very hard time in my life when I was struggling to find a way”.
The Central Intelligence star concluded, “Keep kicking ass, shaking cities and moving crowds ~ with gratitude and a smile”. Dwayne is in the middle of his promotional tour for his rip-roaring new Christmas film with Chris Evans, Red One, in which DJ plays a mystical security guard that attempts to find Santa after he gets kidnapped.
Both Jelly Roll and Dwayne Johnson shared a montage of their respective comments on their respective social media pages, with Jelly's wife, Bunnie XO, gushing, “A bromance we love”.
Dwayne Johnson is a longstanding fan of country music, with The Rock even making a high-profile appearance in Chris Janson's 2024 music video for ‘Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get’. We hope DJ will be cameoing in some Jelly Roll visuals in the near future.
