As sports fans across the US switch their attention from US football to British football - or rather, soccer - a number of teams across the MLS have been unveiling their brand new 2023 kits.
Nashville Soccer Club have revealed a special secondary kit inspired by the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash.
In honour of the new outfit, Bailey Zimmerman has released a cover of Johnny Cash's faith-based anthem, ‘God's Gonna Cut You Down’.
The song, which is exclusively available on Apple Music, appears on a new Nashville SC playlist.
The carefully curated selection of songs also features a cover of ‘Man in Black’ by Carin Leon.
It's always a daunting prospect to cover a Cash classic, but Zimmerman's version of ‘God's Gonna Cut You Down’ crackles with the same fiery intensity that the original carries.
Nashville SC will kick off the new MLS season on Saturday, February 25 when they host New York City FC.
The game will stream on Apple TV via the new soccer streaming service, MLS Season Pass.
The new kit honours Johnny Cash with a variety of subtle details, such as Cash's autograph and a jocktag photograph of the Man in Black. It was crafted in partnership with the Johnny Cash Estate, Wasserman Music and Sandbox Succession.
Speaking about his involvement in the tribute, Bailey Zimmerman explained his song choice, “The real reason I chose Cash’s ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ is because I’m such a believer, like I know he was.
Stoked for everyone to hear this version and maybe see Nashville SC use it next season!”
