Ashley Cooke isn't taking any days off as she gears up for her sophomore album, expected for release later this year.
In previous months, she's teased a smattering of unreleased tunes – like 'dance around it,' 'baby blues away,' 'gettin' old' and more – and we're keeping our fingers crossed find that they find their way onto the highly-anticipated project.
During her performance at CRS' coveted New Faces of Country Music showcase, though, the Florida native added another tantalizing tune to the pile with a stripped down performance of a song called 'The F Word.'
Earlier this week, Cooke played a headlining show at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl where she debuted the unreleased song alongside one of its writers, Emily Weisband.
As yet only featuring a somber acoustic guitar behind her glowing vocals, 'The F Word' is a stunningly clever song that shows off Cooke's penchant for a country hook.
Rather than referring to the four-letter expletive that first comes to mind when you hear the song's title, Cooke is talking about a completely different F word that brings its own host of expectations and fear when said aloud.
"Cause I said the F word in front of your mama / The first time I met her / Not tryna start drama / Just kinda slipped out / Like what the hell did I just do / I said I'll probably spend forever with you," she croons as the big twist arrives in stunning fashion.
The 'your place' hitmaker gave the CRS audience a one-two punch during her New Faces performance, bounding from this stripped down moment to a live wire surprise performance from pop prodigy Joe Jonas.
Together, the duo teamed up for the live debut of their just-released duet, 'All I Forgot,' which marks Cooke's first taste of new music since released her lauded 2023 debut, shot in the dark.

I guess that's why I didn't think before I spoke
I should wash my mouth out with soap
Cause I said the F word in front of your mama
The first time I met her
Not tryna start drama
Just kinda slipped out
Like what the hell did I just do
I said I'll probably spend forever with you
