Ashley Cooke has revealed the full tracklist for her self-titled second album, arriving August 14th. Cooke has playfully shared the tracklist using patches on the back of a denim jacket.

Cooke's decision to put her own name on the record feels important. Cookes' debut album, shot in the dark, introduced her to a wider audience. Then came ace, a deeply personal nine-song project named after her childhood nickname given to her by her father, which captured a period of heartbreak, grief and health challenges.

Cooke has described the new album as “a coming of age record disguised as a relationship album” and that feels like the clearest clue as to what this chapter is really about.

While her career was growing, she was dealing with her father’s cancer, her mother’s health problems, her own Brugada syndrome, the loss of both grandmothers and the end of a long-term relationship. Now, with her father in remission and life feeling lighter again, this album seems to be about who she has become on the other side of it. And we are so pleased to see her in this era, after what must have been a difficult time.

The tracklist gives some more hints of what's to come. Songs like ‘when we’re 30’, ‘if i’m being honest’ and ‘i’m up and i’m down’ suggest she’s reflecting on growing older, relationships and the less tidy parts of finding yourself. ‘johnny n june’ is anticipated amongst fans, given it’s named after one of country music’s most famous couples. It feels fitting as a nod to the kind of relationship that survives life's highs and lows, rather than a fairytale romance. Something fans love about Ashley is the honesty and humour in her tracks, and it seems we can look forward to plenty of this on ashley cooke.

Fans have already had plenty of time to enjoy this era, with ‘baby blues’, ‘xs’ and ‘excuses’ all becoming staples of Ashley’s live shows. ‘xs’ has also taken on a life of its own, fuelled by the now-signature ‘voicemail’ moment in her set, which has featured Megan Moroney, Carly Pearce and more. Particularly with Moroney, it's difficult not to wonder whether they're laying the foundations for something beyond this record.

It may not be on ashley cooke, but a future collaboration between two of country's sharpest female storytellers suddenly feels more likely than ever. The friendship is already there, their audiences overlap, and both artists have built careers from turning heartbreak into songs that are emotional, visceral and often very witty and amusing. A Cooke and Moroney collaboration would make complete sense for this record, and the voicemail now feels like it may have been the first little breadcrumb. The Instagram post doesn’t lean this way, but we remain hopeful!

The writing credits across the forthcoming project also include Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose and Ashley Gorley, while Cooke has co-produced two tracks herself, another sign that she is taking more ownership of the story she wants to tell.

The full album will be followed by Cooke's Baby Blues World Tour, taking her across the US and UK, before finishing at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in February 2027.

The Florida native has grown from posting covers online during lockdown to a No. 1 single, major awards and a global headline tour. There is something quite fitting about reaching this point with an album that simply reads ashley cooke. It's a huge milestone for Cooke, and we’ve loved watching her rise to country music stardom.
