On a street teeming with honky-tonks, cover bands and artist bars galore, it’s almost become a rite of passage for country’s modern day torchbearers to cement their spot on Nashville’s Broadway.
From legends like Jimmy Buffett to newer superstars like Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs, both of whom have their own namesakes coming later this year, you'll stumble upon a who's who of the genre as you walk down the famed street.
One of the latest new hot spots turning up the heat is Eric Church's Chief's On Broadway.
A six-story multi-hyphenate wonderland located snuggly between John Rich's Redneck Riviera and the Hard Rock Cafe on the corner of 2nd and Broadway, Chief's boasts new surprises and charms around nearly every corner.
One part music venue, another part a fully-loaded BBQ restaurant – fit with a massive smoking section on the top floor – and a third part a libation haven, each of the floors encompasses its own unique theme, and obviously features a fully stocked watering hole, too.
The first floor exudes the ambience of a neon-tinged club of days gone by, minus the baked in smell of cigarette smoke and the sticky tabletops. With the bar serving as the focal point and the first of three stages, the decor and attention to detail can not be overstated – something that can be said throughout the entire building, which is decked out in Church references, song lyrics and other memorable snapshots from across his glowing career.
Where the first floor feels like your traditional Broadway bar, the second turns that idea on its head. Taking on something akin to a countrified jazz club, a beautiful grand piano sits proudly in the middle of the room on the building's second stage. Showing off ample seating, all with some special tips of the hat to the hitmaker himself, it's an intimate place for a cocktail and to take in an acoustic set or two.
Moving up to the third, you'll be shocked to find a full-fledged music venue that actually extends into the fourth floor, too... No, we're not making this up!
As the third level serves as the equivalent to floor seats, the fourth floor takes major inspiration from a historic venue just down the street: the Ryman Auditorium. Looking down at the stage, guests can take in the entertainment from a collection of church pews that echo the same one-of-a-kind energy of that found at the Mother Church of Country Music.
While the fifth floor mostly takes form as the building's restaurant, lit up with neon pink and cheekily decorated with flying pigs, the top floor offers up Nashville's newest rooftop hang and a gorgeous view of beloved Music City.
That sixth floor became infamous almost as soon as the bar opened, with Morgan Wallen being arrested for chucking a chair off the rooftop two days after it welcomed its first punters. You can even find the sign outside the bar states "Our pigs fly, our chairs don't".
Church has declared that Chief's On Broadway isn't "just another club downtown" but rather a house for him and his fans to call their own, going so far as issuing tens of thousands of deeds to his dedicated admirers.
After stepping inside and taking it all in, Church couldn't be more on the nose.
You can find Chief's On Broadway at 200 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201. For bookings and events, you can call Chiefs at 629.255.0948 or visit their website, Chiefsonbroadway.com.
