‘Most Wanted’ by Gavin Adcock - Lyrics & Meaning

Gavin Adcock’s album, The Day I Hang It Up was released on October 2nd. The 25 track record was Adcock’s biggest project to date. One week later, however, Adcock released the final addition, ‘Most Wanted’, telling fans, “this is the last song I’m dropping for a long while”.

Co-written by Adcock with Ben Hayslip (Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Thomas Rhett), David Lee Murphy (Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean) and Jack Hummel (Vincent Mason, Corey Kent), the track has all the hallmarks of a smash hit. It's a sing-a-long ready, turn it up loud, anthemic track that marks the end of this project.

'Most Wanted' is a fun, upbeat number. It's reminiscent of his rowdy stage hits like 'Sunset', following a catchy hook and a toe-tapping beat.

It's heavy on electric guitar but before it breaks into a full Thin Lizzy 'The Boys Are Back In Town', Adcock pulls it back with his vocals and supporting percussion. He manages to steer it back into a country song while holding on to that big band sound. When this one starts up on stage, we can bank on it being loud - from the band and the crowd.

The song is about lust. A deep, uncontrollable, undeniable lust. A pull so strong that Adcock feels it criminal. He plays on his bad boy reputation and being a ‘most wanted’ felon, but the most wanted in this track is his love interest, charged with the crime of turning heads and stealing the show.

If wanting somebody this bad's a crime
Then they better take me in

Adcock is referencing the moment he met the love interest, most likely in a bar. She creates an immediate lust within him that he can’t ignore. A feeling so deep and raw that he believes it to be criminal, and the sirens must be for him.

Got every eye in this dive bar lookin'
Trying to wrangle in them painted-on jeans
I've been workin' on my bad reputation

Assimilating his show promo poster to a wanted poster, he talks about how it’s usually his reputation that takes the flack when actually, she’s the thief ‘stealing the show’. She’s unavoidably beautiful and desired by many, making her face the most wanted, not his.

Adcock suggests that he’s been trying to clean up his act but having her around makes that damn difficult. This echoes his earlier line of wanting her so badly that it must be a crime.
