The Background:
Appearing on Stella Lefty's debut album, Long Way Home, the ‘Boston’ singer-songwriter first started teasing ‘Missing You’ towards the end of July 2026. Thankfully, we only had to wait a month before we got to stream the full track on August 21st.
‘Missing You’ feels like a rarity in Lefty's growing catalogue - a sad song. While Lefty has become synonymous with lively, joyful earworms such as ‘Boston’, ‘I Know I Know’ and ‘Why Wouldn't We’, she showcases her versatility with this heartbroken offering.
The Sound:
Despite exploring a more despondent narrative, ‘Missing You’ still caries the light, banjo-driven textures that Lefty infuses into upliifting tracks like ‘Whiskey’ and ‘Boston’.
It comes together with the forlorn, yearning lyrics to create a bittersweet ambience, rather than a full-blown sense of melancholia. The levity of the banjo and the bright guitar hints that a reunion might be on the cards between these two exes, paving the way for more lovestruck odes on the latter half of Long Way Home.
The Meaning:
‘Missing You’ is an immediate meditation on a break-up, taking place the day after they've called it quits. The wound is so fresh that our protagonist hasn't even moved out yet, with Lefty admitting that she's still at her old flame's home and wearing his t-shirt.
This again suggests that there's still a lot of love between them, hinting at a reconnection down the line, but for the time being, our narrator is feeling overwhelmed by the absence of her ex. It feels like the narrative is taking place in University halls, or at least somewhere that has Lefty and her former partner living in the same block of flats, with the Illinois native outlining that her ex is “only a door away”.

“Hasn’t even been a full day?
In fact I’m still at your place
I don’t know what else to do
I’m still in your t-shirt
When I give it back it’s gonna hurt
Can I leave it in your room?
-
I’m trying to be cool about it
But I can’t and there’s nothing I can do about it
-
I’m already missing you
I’m already reminiscing about
The things we used to do
You’re only a door away
But I still long for yesterday, yeah
I’m already missing you
Missing you
-
Running through all my vices
Left to my own devices
Got nothing better to do
Wonder if you feel the same thing
Every time you hear the phone ring
Kinda hoping you do
Mmm
-
I’m trying to be cool about it
But I can’t and there’s nothing I can do about it
-
I’m already missing you
I’m already reminiscing about
The things we used to do
You’re only a door away
But I still long for yesterday, yeah
I’m already missing you
-
What’s a girl to do?
What’s a girl to do?
-
I’m right here where you left me
Stupid but it’s true
I’m right here where you left me
And I’m
-
I’m already missing you
I’m already reminiscing about
The things we used to do
You’re only a door away
But I still long for yesterday, yeah
I’m already missing you
Missing you”
