The Background:
A milestone collaboration for Zach Bryan, ‘Lies’ sees the ‘I Remember Everything’ hitmaker teaming up with one of his favourite artists - pop phenom, Lana Del Rey. The track arrived as part of Bryan's 2026 Young Manhood & Other Donatable Organs EP.
From covering ‘Video Games’ back in 2025, to now joining forces with Lana on a song together, ‘Lies’ feels like a touching full-circle moment. Bryan first shared a clip of ‘Lies’ - then thought to be titled ‘Tell Me Your Lies’ - via TikTok in March 2026.
The Sound:
‘Lies’ feels like a perfect marriage of Bryan and Lana's respective sounds, with the bittersweet offering capturing the angst and turmoil of the former's catalogue while introducing the ethereal, melancholic ambience Lana often infuses into her music.
Originally teased as an acoustic piano ballad, Bryan and Lana hold onto the intimate spirit of that initial demo in the studio version, making ‘Lies’ one of the stand-outs from the EP.
The Meaning:
Across ’Lies’, Bryan and Lana step into the shoes of two lovers that can't resist falling into each other's arms, despite knowing deep down that, ultimately, it never ends well.
Bryan croons from the perspective of a man who has become infatuated with his partner, to the extent that he knows her sweet nothings and her declarations of love are false, but he still yearns to hear more. The narrator pleads with his lover to keep telling him these lies, before hinting there is a toxicity in the relationship, as he describes the way she uses sex and guilt to manipulate him. He's happy to throw any consideration of what's true and what's false out the window, though, because he simply can't resist her when she seduces him.

“Tell me you love me, that you'll always want me
Say you'll always love it when I talk this way
Tell me you'll be there when I need you the most
Hold me close when the night turns to day
-
Tell me your lies, babe, your sweet little lies
Fill my heart with sweetness, with the words that you say
Been seeking the truth all of my youth
The truth means nothing when you look this way
Tell me your lies
-
Tell me you'll always be right here forever
That you had them but you want me better
Tell me everything that you ever said
Was just another excuse for what you meant instead
Tell me all the times that you said I'm enough
Wasn't just another fickle form of love
-
Tell me your lies, babe, your sweet little lies
Fill my heart with sweetness, with the words that you say
Been seeking the truth all of my youth
The truth means nothing when you look this way
Tell me your lies
-
In the house that you built
Shameless when it comes to your sex and your guilt
Tell me your lies, well, tell me your lies
-
I'll let you believe, never leave you without warning
And I'll say anything just to see your little smile
How I'll be here in the morning
Now I'll be here for a while
-
Tell me the truth when it's hardest to say
Even if it means that you're leaving this way
Hold me close as this night turns to day
Then walk away, just walk away
-
Tell me your lies, babe, your sweet little lies
Fill my heart with sweetness with the words that you say
Been seeking the truth all of my youth
Truth means nothing when you look that way
Tell me your lies, well, tell me your lies
Tell me your lies, tell me your lies”
