The Background:

‘Jaded’ doesn’t mark the first time Koe Wetzel and Ella Langley have worked together - it follows their gold-certified track ‘That’s Why We Fight’, so there’s no surprise that fans were looking forward to a reunion. Although an official announcement for the track didn’t come until August 5, fan speculation started swirling when a string of clues were put in place.

A digital billboard placed in Nashville was emblazoned with the words “Heartbroken? Feeling jaded? If so, call (601) 563-9895”. When fans called the number, they were greeted by a short clip of the track ‘Jaded’.

Wetzel then took to social media to let fans in on the big secret: country it-girl Langley would be joining him on the track. Posting a vintage style video of a classic car with a green tinged mirrorball in the back, it was immediately evident that the track would be building on Wetzel’s 1970s country-rock disco leaning sound and strong storytelling.

The two country singers have a close working relationship, and it sounds as if they were as keen to be back in the studio together as fans were. “Ella’s been one of my favorite people to write and sing with for a long time,” says Wetzel. “We recorded ‘That's Why We Fight’ early on in both of our careers, and getting back in a room together was something we talked about every time we saw each other. When she sings, you believe it and I’m excited we could get this one out there to the fans."

‘Jaded’ is one of the deluxe tracks on Wetzel’s 2026 widely acclaimed release The Night Champion, an album that the singer followed up with five additional tracks. With 'The Night Champion World Tour' running throughout 2026, maybe there's a possibility for an appearance from Langley herself?

The Sound:

Wetzel’s latest releases have seen him stepping adding some 70s style disco-tinged sound to his classic country-rock sound whilst remaining firmly in the integrity of country songwriting. The aching duet showcases the voices of the two singers with a strong backbeat and a distant electric guitar throughout the verses, the chorus crashes in with Wetzel and Langley crying out the questions they want to ask.

The Meaning:

"Well, I wanna want ya
But you got some reservations 'bout you, don't ya?
About you, don't ya?
And I kinda like it
How you're damaged just like me, don't try to hide it
Why you tryna hide it?"

As the song begins to unfold, Wetzel starts the aching duet, singing that he wants to know more about the girl on the other half of the tale, but that conversation isn't happening so easily. He picks at the point that she’s the one with reservations - however, those reservations are all about herself, he's just trying to find out more.

"How'd you get so jaded?
Who made you like this?
Who gave you these problems even I can't seem to fix?
How'd you get so lonely?
How'd you get so cold?
I don't wanna hurt you, baby, I just wanna know
How'd you get so jaded?"

The song progresses and we learn that both members of the duo have had some of the same experiences, they might be similar, but not necessarily in a good way. As they reach the chorus, it both singers are left wanting to know, “how’d you get so jaded?”

"Who broke your heart?
Who tore you down and made you go and put your walls up?
Who ran around?
Who ran around?
Who lied and told you that you don't deserve your wings?
It damn sure wasn't me, yeah"

Typically, to be “jaded” means to have had so much of something unpleasant that it doesn’t even faze you anymore. In this context, the pair want to know who it was and what they did that made the other lose their enthusiasm for love, leaving them asking “who gave you these problems even I can’t seem to fix”. After some less-than-ideal relationship experiences, it’s difficult to move into a new one and start something new - especially when the bad parts became the norm.

What has Koe Wetzel said about ‘Jaded’?

Ahead of the release, Wetzel underlined how much he enjoys collaborating with Langley, “Ella’s been one of my favorite people to write and sing with for a long time. We recorded ‘That's Why We Fight’ early on in both of our careers, and getting back in a room together was something we talked about every time we saw each other. When she sings, you believe it and I’m excited we could get this one out there to the fans”.

-

Who broke your heart? Who dropped the ball?
Who had the world and lost it all?
Made you hurt, made you cry
Just tell me tonight

-

How'd you get so jaded?
Who made you like this?
Who gave you these problems even I can't seem to fix?
How'd you get so lonely?
How'd you get so cold?
I don't wanna hurt you, baby, I just wanna know
How'd you get so jaded? Ooh
How'd you get so jaded? Ooh

-

Who broke your heart?
Who broke your heart?
Who tore you down and made you go and put your walls up?
Your walls up
Them walls up
Who ran around?
Who ran around?
Who lied and told you that you don't deserve your wings?
It damn sure wasn't me, yeah

Who dropped the ball?
Who had the world and lost it all?
Made you hurt, made you cry
Just tell me tonight

-

Yeah, how'd you get so jaded?
Who made you like this?
Who gave you these problems even I can't seem to fix?
How'd you get so lonely?
How'd you get so cold?
So cold
I don't wanna hurt you, baby, I just wanna know
How'd you get so jaded? Ooh (How'd you get so jaded? How'd you get so -)
How'd you get so jaded? Ooh (How'd you get so jaded? How'd you get so jaded?)

-

How'd you get so jaded? How'd you get so jaded?
How'd you get so jaded? How'd you get so -"
