The Background:

Adcock’s next album, The Day I Hang It Up, is set for release on October 2nd, 2026, and ‘Having One Now’ is his 6th release of the 25 track project. It follows a quick string of August releases, ‘Shoes’ and ‘Workin’ Man’, that have also been released this month.

Renown for his rowdy performances and high-profile feuds, this track sits somewhere more akin to a radio-friendly hit.

The Sound:

The song opens with melancholy as Adcock’s southern drawl lilts over his misfortune of perpetual bad luck. It’s slow and sombre until his luck changes on a dime and the song’s upbeat tempo kicks in. Adcock’s inimitable voice carries the track over an easy beat, where classic country guitars cosy up to some good old fashioned steel for a simple but effective melody.

The Meaning:

Adcock sings of a time where he’d given up hope of any good fortune crossing his path. Throwing the towel in and heading to the familiar comfort of a bar, Adcock’s expectations are in the gutter. There’s no way things will turn around for him so he says “to hell with it all” and heads to a barstool to drown his sorrows.

That is, until he meets a girl. They share “round after round” of drinks and Adcock is smitten. He “wasn’t countin’ on a long kiss” but it seems his luck has changed for the better. Hooked on this woman’s touch, Adcock’s spirits are lifted.

The reason he felt so full of misfortune? Well, that also seems to be at the hands of a woman. Adcock’s reference to having his first drink “thinkin’ how I was hung up on the last one” suggests that he’s there to nurse a broken heart. But they say the best way to get over someone…is to buy someone else a drink. And here we have the “vodka-cran” on his tab. The laughter from his new woman helps erase the pain from the last and suddenly that day is looking a whole lot brighter.

“I've had it all and lost it
Won it back and lost it again
Bad luck's been my best friend
So I said "to hell with it all"
And hit that hole in the wall

-

I wasn't plannin' on a good day
Til I saw them jeans huggin' your skin
One little touch and I was all in
I think things are turnin' around
Round after round

-

I wasn't countin' on a long kiss
Roped in
Got me on my feet again
Thought the world had kicked me down
I wasn't plannin' on a good day
But I'm damn sure having one now

-

Well I had my first one
Thinkin' how I was hung up on the last one
Then you made me smile
And I made you laugh
Now there's a vodka-cran on my tab

-

I wasn't plannin' on a good day
Til I saw them jeans huggin' your skin
One little touch and I was all in
I think things are turnin' around
Round after round

-

I wasn't countin' on a long kiss
Roped in
Got me on my feet again
Thought the world had kicked me down
I wasn't plannin' on a good day
But I'm damn sure having one now

-

I wasn't plannin' on a good day
Til I saw them jeans huggin' your skin
One little touch and I was all in
I think things are turnin' around
Round after round

-

I wasn't countin' on a long kiss
Roped in
Got me on my feet again
Thought the world had kicked me down
MI wasn't plannin' on a good day
But I'm damn sure having one now”
