The Background:
Appearing on Josiah Queen's widely celebrated third album, Damascus Road, ‘galaxies’ finds the ‘Dusty Bibles’ singer-songwriter meditating on God's unconditional love. The track is joined on the 2026 project by other euphoric, faith-filled fan-favourites like ‘amazing!’ with ELEVATION WORSHIP, ‘demons’, ‘judas’ and ‘out of breath’.
The Sound:
While Queen leans into his signature, folk-driven sound for the majority of Damascus Road, on ‘galaxies’, the Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer explores a more rock-leaning aesthetic. The composition is pared-down and intimate at first, before a sea of dramatic electric guitars and an emphatic drum pattern enter the fray, accentuating the emotional weight of Queen's heartfelt croons in the hook.
The Meaning:
At its heart, ‘galaxies’ is simply a song about the unconditional love on offer from God and Jesus. Queen reflects on how Jesus loved him long before he decided to turn to Him and express his love back, highlighting how this love is constant and unchanging, regardless of the mistakes and wrong-turns we may take in our lives. Queen sings about God and Jesus’ love as something that is everyone's birthright, rather than something we need to earn and something we can lose.
In the galvanising chorus, Queen underlines that God's love knows no boundaries, and that the love he has for his children “spans galaxies”. Queen movingly stresses that this is a level of love, forgiveness and compassion that we as humans can't fully comprehend, but nonetheless, it's a love that is available to us all. Queen returns to a core theme throughout his catalogue - the idea that Jesus is our intimate, personal friend, rather than an abstract concept in the clouds.

“Who am I that You would think of me
The God of all creation, everything
Your hands that hold the stars
Still they hold my heart
Who am I that You would think of me
-
Before I took a breath
You said You knew me
You brought me from the dust and breathed into my lungs
So I've gotta sing oh
-
Before I said it back
You said You love me
As east is to the west the love inside Your chest
Spans galaxies
-
Who am I that You would call me friend
You showed me perfect love that never ends
On and on it goes, it overwhelms my soul
Who am I that You would call me friend
-
Before I took a breath
You said You knew me
You brought me from the dust and breathed into my lungs
So I've got to sing oh
-
Before I said it back
You said You love me
As east is to the west the love inside Your chest
Spans galaxies
-
Oh, yeah, whoa
-
I can't explain this love I know
'Cause it ain't something typical
But Lord You know, You know I'll try
-
Before I took a breath
You said You knew me
You brought me from the dust and breathed into my lungs
So I've got to sing oh
-
Before I said it back
You said You love me
As east is to the west the love inside Your chest
Spans galaxies
-
As east is to the west the love inside Your chest
Spans galaxies”
