Everything you need to know about this heartfelt song, taken from Ella Langley's 2026 studio album, ‘Dandelion’.
As the excitement was building ahead of Ella Langley's second studio album, Dandelion, the ‘Choosin‘ Texas’ singer-songwriter shared brief snippets of three tracks from the project - including ‘Broken’. This one undoubtedly evoked the strongest response from Von, who commented on how heartbreaking the narrative was.
It finds the Alabama native getting candid about her struggles and her feeling that she's “fallin‘ apart”, before asking her partner to simply hold her and not speak for a few moments.
Sonically, ‘Broken’ feels reminiscent of ‘Be Her’ and ‘Choosin’ Texas’, with Langley combining her penchant for traditional, steel-soaked country instrumentation and a sleeker, more contemporary ambience. Throughout the hook, the infectious melody cascades across the hazy, warm guitar riff and driving drum pattern.
One of country music's most revered instrumentalists, Charlie Worsham, takes the helm on the guitar, while co-writers Laura Veltz and Austin Goodloe are on backing vocals.
‘Broken’ follows a narrator who has reached her wit's end, and is struggling to keep it together. As a result, rather than having to put on a brave face, she asks her partner to let her be as broken as she feels tonight, without having to explain or justify herself.
It epitomises the common mistake in relationships where, when a partner reveals they're feeling low, the other's instinct is to try and fix it and find a solution. Instead, as Langley outlines here, sometimes you just want to be able to feel what you need to feel, and express and sit with your emotions, without trying to run from them.
When premiering a clip of ‘Broken’ on Theo Von's This Past Weekend shortly before the arrival of Dandelion, Langley shared that she felt this track in particular would sound fantastic live. Langley explained that she envisions this being the moment when attendees hold up their phone-lights, seemingly a hint that this one will be going straight into the ‘you look like you love me’ hitmaker's 2026 setlist.
“Don't ask if I'm doin' alright
Can we skip all the talking baby?
Don't try to find the right things to say
'Cause the words ain't workin' on me lately
Tears just fall on a hard wood floor
Gonna wonder why, gonna wonder what for
Don't ask if I'm doin' alright
Can we skip all the talking baby?
-
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Ah-ah-ah, ooh, yeah
-
One night, baby just one night
Let me feel that thing I'm feeling
And if it's alright, I'mma let it all out
I'mma let it all out tonight
-
Just let me, just let me, just let me bе broken
Just let me, just lеt me, just let me be broken
-
You and me in the dark, just keep holdin' me tight
While I'm fallin' apart, baby just for the night
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken, ooh
-
Yeah, you and me in the dark, just keep holdin' me tight
While I'm fallin' apart, baby just for the night
-
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
-
Oh, don't ask from, if I'm doing all right
Baby, just let go, just for one night
-
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken”
